On Site Field Repairs

Reed Services Inc, (RSI) was formed with the vision of expanding the field level repair opportunities available to the customer using the most experienced personnel available in a cost-effective manner. RSI has ensured the best technical personnel are available to the customer by securing long time gas turbine repair and overhaul technicians. The cost effectiveness has been maximized through reduced overhead and a widely dispersed manpower group. This level of experience and cost effective operation will become the customers' strongest asset in the continued maintenance of their gas turbine.

The concept of field level maintenance revolves around module level repair and replacement at the customers' facility. The field level repairs include replacement of the complete hot section, modules in their entirety, rotor blades, mainline bearings, and individual parts. The implementation of field level repairs into the customers' maintenance plan can reduce the manpower costs of an event in excess of 25%.

The primary advantage to field repair is the reduced cycle time to affect that repair. This is a result of the momentum that is carried through the repair. The same team of technicians removes the gas turbine, affect the repair, install and cover the start up. Much of the added expense of overhaul facility visits are associated with the billable hours being distributed among assembly mechanics, inspectors, cleaning room personnel, and parts acquisition and distribution duties. The field repair enables the technician that is dismantling a component to remove, inspect and clean the component. This greatly reduces man-hours required per cycle and effectively reduces the total repair time as well.

Secondary advantages of field level repairs are the opportunities to judge the relevance of a repair weighing it against unit specific concerns such as when the next hot section or overhaul is scheduled. As overhaul limits must assure the safe and continued operation of the part for an additional 25,000 to 50,000 hours, often the parts are replaced because of being exposed during an overhaul shop visit. The field limits in the repair manuals are often more lenient allowing for greater flexibility in determining whether to repair or replace the effected part. This allows an additional opportunity for the gas turbine part to continue in operation until its scheduled overhaul facility visit.

RSI is the best resource available to the customer in terms of experienced personnel and their depth of knowledge for the aeroderivative gas turbine market. This experience and the adapting of a field level repair program are sure to reduce the operating expenses of your gas turbine.
